Tomer Devorah students have the opportunity to live and
experience the saying of our Sages that “kol Yisra el
arevim zeh la’zeh,” all Jews are responsible for one another.
Students are called upon during their year in seminary to contribute
to the lives of Jews living in Israel. Our chessed program is fluid
and flexible, as students are given a choice of venues in which they
would like to be involved. For example, students may spend time
visiting and shopping for elderly people, putting together Shabbat
food packages for the needy of Yerushalayim or visiting the sick and
wounded in hospitals. Some students choose to stay in the local
community and assist families with childcare. Many of these local
families are all too happy to welcome students into their lives and
form inspiring relationships.
The chessed program is one way we achieve the goal of having Tomer
Devorah students return to America with a deep appreciation and
understanding of the communities that make up the diverse tapestry
of the People of Israel. |
